Abstract
This study was, undertaken to investigate whether the diuretic action of ethacrynic acid in the tortoise is based on the inhibition of protein-bound sulfhydryl group in the tubule, as suggested by several authors. Dimercaprol, which inhibits the diuresis as well as toxic -action of mercurial diuretics by freeing inhibited sulfhydryl groups, was shown not to block nor modify the diuresis induced by ethacrynic acid. From this data and other observations, it inay be concluded that the diuretic action of ethacrynic acid is not related to the inhibition of sulfhydryl group in the tubules.
